Schönbrunn, 519 m above sea level, was first mentioned in a document on August 14, 1325. The name Schönbrunn can be traced back to the excellent spring water and the "beautiful" wells. Schönbrunn has 639 inhabitants and is a typical village with a green in the center. The church stands on a small hill in the middle of the village, at the foot of which is the village's landmark, the fountain. The houses are grouped in a flat arc around the church and form the center of the village. Schönbrunn was initially a farming village and developed in the 18th century into a village with a mixed population, partly farmers and partly tradespeople. In 1782, Prince Heinrich XXXV built a new road from Lobenstein to Ebersdorf and had it lined with lime trees. Part of the avenue is still preserved today. In 1783, the "stately pleasure house" Bellevue was built on the highest elevation in the village. Later, it served as a summer retreat for the electors. In 1992, a community center with a guest room, club room, and sports room was built in the center of the village. Today, a new residential area with beautiful homes is part of the townscape. A new commercial area with a gas station and other companies has been developed. Schönbrunn also includes the southern district of "Grüner Esel" (Green Donkey), located on the old military and trade route between Nuremberg and Leipzig, with its two houses, "Grauer Affe" (Gray Monkey) and the "Weißer Trutz" (White Fortress) inn. From there, you can go on charming hikes to the Saale reservoir and the "Heinrichstein" viewpoint. The Heinrichstein, with its steeply rising rock massif, offers hikers a magnificent view of the reservoir and the distant Saale mountains. This viewpoint is rightly praised as one of the most beautiful views in the upper Saale valley.

Schönbrunn, 519 m über NN, wurde erstmalig am 14. August 1325 urkundlich erwähnt. Der Name Schönbrunn ist auf das vorzügliche Quellwasser und die „schönen“ Brunnen zurückzuführen. Schönbrunn zählt 639 Einwohner und ist von der Anlage ein reines Angerdorf. In der Mitte des Dorfes steht auf einem kleinen Hügel die Kirche, an dessen Fuße sich das Wahrzeichen, der Brunnen, befindet. Die Häuser sind im flachen Kreisbogen um die Kirche gruppiert und bilden den Ortskern. Zunächst war Schönbrunn ein Bauerndorf und entwickelte sich im 18. Jahrhundert zu einem Dorf mit gemischter Bevölkerungsstruktur, teils Bauern, teils Gewerbetreibende. 1782 errichtete Fürst Heinrich XXXV. eine neue Straße von Lobenstein nach Ebersdorf und ließ sie mit Linden bepflanzen. Ein Teil der Allee ist auch heute noch erhalten. Auf der höchsten Erhebung des Ortes wurde 1783 das „herrschaftliche Lusthaus“ Bellevue errichtet. Später diente es den Kurfürsten als Sommerfrische. In der Ortsmitte entstand 1992 ein Bürgerhaus mit Gast-, Club- und Sportraum. Heute gehört ein neues Wohnbaugebiet mit schönen Eigenheimen zum Ortsbild. Neu entstanden ist ein Gewerbegebiet mit Tankstelle und weiteren Firmenansiedlungen. Zu Schönbrunn gehört auch der südlich gelegene Ortsteil „Grüner Esel“; gelegen an der alten Heeres- und Handelsstraße Nürnberg- Leipzig mit seinen beiden Häusern „Grauer Affe“ und dem Wirtshaus „Weißer Trutz“. Von dort aus sind reizvolle Wanderungen zum Saalestausee und Aussichtspunkt „Heinrichstein“ möglich. Der Heinrichstein mit seinem steil aufsteigenden Felsmassiv bietet dem Wanderer einen herrlichen Ausblick auf den Stausee und die entfernten Saaleberge. Mit Recht wird dieser Aussichtspunkt als einer der schönsten Ausblicke im oberen Saaletal gepriesen.

Les maisons sont regroupées en arc de cercle autour de l'église et forment le centre du village. À l'origine, Schönbrunn était un village agricole qui s'est développé au XVIIIe siècle pour devenir un village à la population mixte, composée en partie d'agriculteurs et en partie d'artisans. En 1782, le prince Heinrich XXXV fit construire une nouvelle route entre Lobenstein et Ebersdorf et la fit border de tilleuls. Une partie de cette allée est encore conservée aujourd'hui. En 1783, le « pavillon de plaisance seigneurial » Bellevue a été construit sur la plus haute colline du village. Plus tard, il a servi de résidence d'été aux princes électeurs. En 1992, une maison communale avec une salle de réception, un club et une salle de sport a été construite au centre du village. Aujourd'hui, un nouveau quartier résidentiel avec de belles maisons individuelles fait partie du paysage urbain. Une zone industrielle avec une station-service et d'autres entreprises s'est récemment développée. Schönbrunn comprend également le quartier « Grüner Esel » situé au sud, sur l'ancienne route militaire et commerciale Nuremberg-Leipzig, avec ses deux maisons « Grauer Affe » et l'auberge « Weißer Trutz ». De là, il est possible de faire de belles randonnées vers le lac artificiel de la Saale et le point de vue « Heinrichstein ». Avec son massif rocheux escarpé, le Heinrichstein offre aux randonneurs une vue magnifique sur le lac artificiel et les montagnes lointaines de la Saale. Ce point de vue est à juste titre considéré comme l'un des plus beaux de la haute vallée de la Saale.
